Latvian Contact Point

As the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs is responsible for developing and implementing the Latvian asylum and immigration policy, establishing the legal status and making registration of persons, in the 25th October, 2005, the Cabinet of Ministers confirmed the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs as the Latvian Contact Point of the European Migration Network (hereinafter – Network).

The Latvian Contact Point of the Network shall carry out the tasks of the Network at national level and in particular:

  • provide national reports  describing the migration and asylum situation in Latvia, which shall include policy developments and statistical data;
  • prepare other studies, following common specifications, covering specific migration and asylum-related issues necessary for the support of policymaking;
  • contribute with national information to the information exchange system;
  • develop a capacity to issue ad-hoc requests and to respond quickly to such requests from other National Contact Points;
  • establish and maintain the national migration network, composed of a wide-range of organizations and individuals active in the area of migration and asylum and representing relevant stakeholders.
